Oh hooray paychecks

I finally got a paycheck! And hit the shops...of course. I can't remember if I've mentioned how out-of-style I feel over here, but I do. English girls are incredibly trendy - and most every shop has cute clothes that I couldn't afford. Until now.

I went slightly crazy at Topshop and bought some fabulous red-orange trousers and two button down shirts that have puff sleeves and peter pan collars - one in white and one in grey. Then some office clothes from H&M (not to say I won't wear the red-orange trousers to work). And a long black double breast wool coat! It's great! Maybe not the warmest coat I could have bought - but really when I get back to Texas it will be the perfect deep-winter coat.

Other than my shopping adventures - work has been pretty routine. I've taken over a guy's position who left, so I actually have a lot to keep me busy. And the past week I've been over in another building of the council, the Guildhall. If you are really bored you can read about the Guildhall here http://www.trytel.com/~tristan/towns/florilegium/poppoli04.html. (I didn't take any pictures, because I was technically at work, and that would just be awkward).

This alternate assignment I've been on was actually much more entertaining than I originally thought. I had a chance to meet people from all different departments of the council. One lady had taken a holiday in Texas a few years back and brought in her pictures for me to see one day. She had some of Enchanted Rock and the Nimitz Museum...I got really excited and her Texas keyring really made my day!

Other people I was working with introduced me to odd British things like Frazzles (taste like bacon), Skips (taste like prawns), and Monster Munch (taste like pickled onions) crisps. And I tried to explain what grits and biscuits were. (My definitions: Grits - a hot breakfast cereal like porridge except the texture of cous cous. Biscuits - a savory scone that are fluffy and can be made from pancake mix. Hey - I think I was pretty descriptive.)

Hey girl!
It seems you are having a blast. I am so jealous of your shopping opportunities. Take some pics of your trendy new attire.

Sarah,
Finally got around to reading the blog and backlog of blog. I am so happy you didn't get the job here and were able to do your English adventure. I'm sure Rachel is jealous that you got the paycheck and went shopping immediately. Had to laugh at the pre-shopping spare closet. Don't know if Rachel could have survived that.

All of this is just too grown up for me. Nice on the descriptions though...I want some biscuits and gravy!
