I really did feel bad!

Job hunting is certainly never dull. Just when you've lost hope that something decent is going to turn up you end up with interviews. But Saturday I had no idea what I had in store for me.

On Tuesday I had two interviews. The first one went superbly (even though I wasn't supposed to have that one until Weds) and they wanted me to start the next day. So not knowing what the other interview would be like I went ahead and said I would start.

So yesterday was my first day as an executive secretary in a department of the UK central gov't. The office was great, pay was pretty good and gosh darn it I felt important. So I tootled my way through the day, learning all the different random acronyms as I went. At lunch I ran out - stupidly - without my raincoat. So of course, it rains. Here I am in the middle of York - drenched - and slightly lost, and I get a call back from the other interview I had the day before. The York City Council wanted to hire me on for marketing/PR and pay me nearly a pound more an hour. What was a girl to do?! Return soaking wet and an hour late and resign on the first day of course.

I felt awful - like I was letting them down. And before then I'd never resigned from anywhere! Luckily the temp agency was able to arrange for another prospective employee to come down later that day and it wasn't a big deal. So Monday I start my post at the York City Council. But I can say I worked for the UK central gov't for a day!

Other than that life has been pretty uneventful. I've been doing more odd jobs at the hostel to cover my stay. So yesterday I had the pleasure of cooking/doing dishes for 61 Dutch pre-teens at the hostel on a field trip. And today Mindy and I spent 5 1/2 hours changing linens in all of their rooms. But I am now an expert at quickly stuffing a duvet cover! Lifeskills people...lifeskills.

Back to my Moroccan Mint Tea here at the Evil Eye Lounge before I brave the cold rain again!
