Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving was quite the production for Mindy and me this year - since for the first time in either of our lives we actually prepared a meal for ten people. Not to mention we'd never made any of the dishes ourselves before. For a before-dinner snack I roasted some pumpkin seeds taken from this pumpkin and I carved it to stick outside our door so people knew where to go. Or that was the original plan. Our street is rather hidden. And a fine example of my carving abilities it is.

Post your guesses as to what I carved...I'm just curious.

Our Thanksgiving decorations! The hand turkey in the middle is from my manager's nearly-two-year-old son. It's adorable. Which is why it's in the middle.

The makings of my sweet potato pie the night before Thanksgiving. I couldn't find the right ingredients to make pumpkin pie - so this was my alternative. And it was quite popular both at dinner and at work the next day! People were fascinated by the idea of a vegetable in a dessert pie.

Before picture of the turkey as Mindy and I searched for the giblet bag - which was thankfully there.

Three dishes down. That's stuffing, green bean casserole and candied sweet potatoes (my favorite!)

James, one of our housemates, doing the honour of carving the big guy.

Mindy rearranged our living room and reassembled a desk to fit everyone in. That's our three housemates - Chris from Belfast, Tom from Nottingham, James from Huddersfield, and Katie from London.
And all the wonderful
un-burnt non-poisoning food!

And the other side of the table! That's Travin and Liz from Australia and Mindy...from Sugar Land. Mark from Scotland (Who calls me Sarah Biscuit and Mindy...Mindy McStraw) was eventually at the head of the table. But when I took this picture he was still wandering the streets of South Bank trying to find our house.

My plate! Pre-turkey.

Happy (and nervous looking) dinner guests.

Mindy and her pie. And, look! There's Mark! He didn't die trying to find the house after all.
